Wareham is the quiet gateway to the Isle of Purbeck — and one of Dorset's most underrated towns. River boat trips, wildlife walks at RSPB Arne, and Saxon history all within a mile of each other.
Wareham is a small Saxon town enclosed by ancient earth walls, sitting at the gateway to the Isle of Purbeck. The River Frome flows through its quay, offering boat trips to Poole Harbour, while the nearby Tank Museum at Bovington houses the world's finest collection of armoured vehicles. RSPB Arne, on the shores of Poole Harbour, is one of southern England's best nature reserves for spotting rare Dartford warblers and sika deer.
